During my senior year of college I won a student Emmy in the video essay category. The video was a storytelling piece about the Xavier Women's Basketball team who has overcome multiple challenges and massive coaching changes in a span of three years. This was the first stepping stone that really gave me the confidence to pursue a career in creative.

I recently was granted honorable mention in the sports editorial category for my girls can't play sports image. The title was a sarcastic undertone because the image displays a softball player in all her fierceness. It shows the emotion and just purse amazingness of our female athletes. I was overjoyed to receive honorable mention as this is an international competition with thousands of applicants. Having my name in the conversation was well, pretty cool.

10 Black Female Photographers to Watch in 2021

I was recognized by Black Women Photographer creator Polly Irungu for one of the top female photographers to discover and support. "VI. Mercedes Oliver (USA) - It has been a while since I stumbled upon a Black woman sports photographer this is why I was delighted to come across Mercedes Oliver’s work this past year. Cleveland, Ohio-born, Birmingham, Alabama-based Mercedes combines her passion for athletics with her love of documenting sports events."

Photo Is Light World Photography Contest 

The 2020 edition received entries from photographers from 66 different countries. The contest had the indispensable participation of members of the international jury who evaluated and checked each finalist image according to the regulations. I was nominated for having one of the top 10 photos in the photojournalism category.
